Your Choice

The Lord’s insight. Vote for the person who will not defy the God you serve.

Joshua 24:15: “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourself this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Luke 23:42: “Then he said to Jesus, Lord remember me when You come into Your Kingdom. And Jesus said to him, assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

In the book of 1 Samuel, we have the story of David and how he fought and killed Goliath. Goliath had defied the Army of Israel. To defy is to challenge the authority or the very essence of something. Goliath had defied the Army of Israel and thus he had defied the living God. He wanted the people to serve the Philistines.

It looked like the choice for Israel was to fight or not, but it wasn’t.  Their choice was to serve God or not. The Israelite Army and its leaders didn’t see this, but David did. He made the right choice for them.

We have just gone through an election. The people running for the right to be our leaders condition us to think we must make a choice to elect the person who will serve us and our needs. They want us to defy what looks bad for us and to choose what looks good for us.

Joshua challenges the people, after they had conquered the Promised Land, to choose whom they would serve. Would they choose to serve what would give them all they wanted or would they serve Who was all they needed? Joshua 24.

On the day Jesus was crucified there were two robbers also crucified with Him, one on His right and the other on His left. One of the robbers blasphemed Jesus by saying “if you are the Son of God save Yourself and us.” But the other one respected Jesus and said, “This Man has done no wrong. Lord remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.”

Two robbers. One blasphemed the Lord and died apart from the Lord that day. But the other one glorified the Lord and went with the Lord that day to paradise. In some ways we sometimes must choose between two robbers.

We must be wise in the choices we make about who will lead us. The Goliath’s, fighting for our votes should be obvious to us. But those who a more subtle than goliath may not be as evident. God does not always send us the perfect person to lead us or to help us make the best choices.

If person looks good and sounds good and makes us feel like they are a choice that will give us more of what we want, they may just be the thing that draws us away from God more than chasing us towards the Lord.

We must be wise in what we expect from our elected leaders. The person who is against the Lord and against the things of God is not going to tell us that openly. They will never serve the Lord. They will twist things so that we will serve everything and anyone but the Lord.

They will lead us astray or more astray than we are now. When we give them position, power and authority over us they will make us become more like they are.

The person who looks like a bank robber can be redeemed and will not likely ask us to become bank robbers. A bank robber does not want a nation of bank robbers. Instead, they will likely fight for us to serve the Lord in Truth.

Those who defy God or bank robbers. Sometimes those are our choices. One will for sure lead us away from the Lord and the other just may lead us to Him.

Choose for yourself the one that you will serve. And choose for yourself the one who is likely to serve the Lord your God. Be wise in the choice you make.

Live a Delivered Life.
