Yours Is

Your Moment at the Well

The Lord’s insight. Your attitude determines the height or depth of your life!

Matthew 5:1-9: Blessed are the poor in spirit; those who mourn; the meek; those who hunger and thirst for righteousness; the merciful; the pure in heart; and the peacemakers.

Isaiah 14:12-14: For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven.  I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of the congregation. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.  I will be like the Most High. We are talking about satan’s attitude here.

We commonly refer to Matthew 5:1-9 as the sermon on the mountain.  Jesus taught the people about what we call the beatitudes.  This was one of His first sermons to the multitude of people as He began His ministry.

He had already healed a great many people throughout the land as He approached the day of this teaching.  So the people gathered together to witness more of His miracles.  He chose to do something that would heal more than their sickness.  He chose to deliver a message that would heal their souls.

It is as if He was saying to them:

If you want to be someone in your land; before the eyes of man; in your community; become someone who is noticed for having a quiet needful spirit.  People will respect you.

If you want the world around you to be better and you are doing all that you can to make it better become someone who mourns for the land more than for yourself.  God will comfort you by healing the land.

If you want to be big on earth and have much of what can be had on earth, become someone who seeks little of what earth has to offer.  Then the Lord will give you more of all that is good on earth.

If you want righteousness to reign more than worldliness, become someone who is hungry and thirsty for righteousness to reign around you.  Then the Lord will fill you.

If you want to see a society where there is more mercy than condemnation, become someone who is merciful. Then you will be given mercy.

If you want the world to see more of God and His purity and less of themselves, then become someone who is pure in heart.  Then the Pure God will be seen through your purity.

If you want there to be more peace and less conflict in the world between God’s people and the people of the world, then become someone who is a peacemaker. Then both God and the world will call you sons and children of God.

Isaiah 14:12-14 reminds us that the main reason satan was cast out of heaven was because of His attitude.  It is important to understand. Actually, satan started out as high as anything but his attitude brought him to the lowest point there can be.

Jesus is reminding us that out attitudes determines the altitude of our lives. These are states of being Jesus calls us to be more than He is calling us to do. If you want to be more of anything, have the attitude that you are the least of all things.
